Windhoek — The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR), is gearing itself to become Namibia's leading player in the petroleum and gas sector. The company has been an important, if not the most important player in the importation of petroleum products for Namibia since it started operating 19 years ago. NAMCOR was formed under the Petroleum Corporation and Production Act 1991and to date the company has fulfilled its mandate of delivering the country's petroleum products requirements.
This week Namcor Managing Director, Sam Beukes, emphasizes on this above-mentioned statement when he spoke with the Economist in a one-on-one interview. Beukes who was appointed managing director in 2007 is delighted to be part of this company and is looking forward to doing more work in terms of product development and professionalism in order to fulfil the mandate of NAMCOR.
NAMCOR is a 100% Government-owned entity which according to its managing director was formed with the aim of carrying out reconnaissance, exploration and production operations, promoting the hydrocarbon potential of Namibia, processing and refining of petroleum products, and disposing of or dealing with petroleum. "the company ensures the optimum use of Namibia's petroleum resources and participation resulting in business developments. The company also acts as advisor to the Ministry of Mines and Energy on policy issues regarding the petroleum industry and assists it in monitoring the exploration activities of licensees" Beukes said.
