The edification of the future hydro-electrical dam of « Great Poubara »

January 20, 2010

The edification of the future hydro-electrical dam of « Great Poubara » has been on the agenda of a meeting between the Gabonese Prime Minister, M. Paul Biyoghé Mba, and the General Director of Gauff Engeneering.
This dam will be located 650 km south-east from Libreville and will be the most important of his kind in Gabon. It will generate an additional 160 MW for an estimated cost of US$ 398 million. This new dam has been rendered indispensable by the rising electricity consumption of the country and it will reinforce the current Poubara dam. The electricity thus produced will notably be used by the two future ferromanganese plants of the Ogooué Mining Company.
The purpose of the meeting was to disclose the results of preliminary studies for this project – which shall be built by a Chinese consortium.
